With a temperature range of -50°C to 300°C (-58°F to 572°F) and a response time of 3-4 seconds the Ironstone ThermaPin is a highly accurate thermometer primarily designed for cooking but is fantastic for other uses, such as measuring formula temperatures. It’s great for roasting and frying, as the 13cm long probe will keep hands away from the heat of the oven or oil and the thin probe tip does not require cutting into the meat, nor will it leave a noticeable mark in the presentation.
With an easy to clean stainless steel probe and an IP66 waterproof rated casing, this thermometer is perfect for the kitchen, and with its magnetic back, it’s also a great tool for the BBQ. With a hanging eyelet, it can be stored on a hook or hung on a lanyard within easy reach while cooking. The ThermaPin can display temperatures in both Celsius and Fahrenheit so there’s no need to convert American recipes, and the screen’s large numbers can be lit up at the press of a button to combat dim lighting or night time cookouts.
There’s no need to worry if it has been accidentally left on either, as the ThermaPin turns itself off after 10 minutes of inactivity. For convenient data recording, it has a hold function that pauses the reading once the button is pressed. This thermometer can also be calibrated, which is another useful ability that many thermometers do not possess so that you can be 100% sure that the temperature is right every time for perfect and reliable results with each meal.

Make an Ice Bath for your ThemaPin
To make the Ice Bath:
What you Need: A cup, ice, water
- Fill your cup to the brim with ice, preferably crushed so there are fewer gaps between the ice
- Add water to fill the gaps between the ice and make sure it stops about 1.5cm below the top of the ice
- Let sit for a minute then stir the ice bath to regulate temperature
Insert the probe about 5cm into the Ice Bath, making sure you don’t touch the sides or bottom of the cup with the probe.
After it has reached a final temperature, hold down the ‘CAL’ button for 3 seconds. The display will flash ‘CAL’, and will then be automatically calibrated to 0°C(32°F).
Please be advised that some models of induction cooktops can create a temporary interference with digital electronic thermometers when they are used nearby. The amount of interference and the best solution will depend on the model of the cooktop.
Here are some solutions that should get a reading:
- Remove food from the cooktop to take a quick reading away from the magnetic field
- Remove the pan from the cooktop which will break the magnetic field
- Briefly turn off the induction cooktop during the reading
